How to Stage and Sell Your Home During the Holiday Season

Well it’s that time of year when thoughts are on holiday food, gifts and family gatherings. Although it can be challenging to sell your home during this time, you also want to keep in mind that your house can be staged to sell and also decorated for the holiday season. Sometimes it is hard to balance between selling your home and keeping up with the holiday rush. Don’t worry! Sit back with a glass of wine or a gingerbread latte and plan how you will ease into the season:

  • Decorate with flair but tastefully

We all like to celebrate during the holiday season but try to keep an eye on your décor with selling in mind. Inflatable large Santas and Frostys can be cute but will definitely overpower and may turn off any potential buyers. You will want to tone down flashing lights and keep the lights to a minimum. A simple string of lights that complement your house will go a long way.

  • Take welcoming photos

If you are deciding to sell during the holiday season it may be a good idea to have your professional photos taken before the holiday decorations go up. After all, even though your beautifully decorated tree might be a sight to behold, buyers may miss your beautiful panoramic windows or wooden floors. It is only human nature to have your eyes drawn to a large image in a picture. Remember a picture says a thousand words and you want those words to become an offer to purchase.

  • Make Curb Appeal a Priority

December can always bring a host of various weather conditions. Make sure your driveway and stairs are cleared of snow and ice and add a bit of sand or salt to make the path to your doorway safe. You want to have a welcoming entrance that will invite not discourage potential buyers.

  • Motivated Buyers

Even though you are selling during the holidays, the buyers that do come through will normally be more motivated during this time. Sometimes buyers are transferred in the New Year or may be working on a specific date to move. So don’t get discouraged.

  • Don’t fret the New Year is on the horizon

January and February are on the horizon and this is often one of the best times to buy a home. Buyers are looking to move in the Spring and like to start looking during these months. You may get a better price for your house as there are fewer homes for buyers to choose during this season. Make sure you have good summer pictures of what your backyard and gardens look like to highlight your home
