There have been many blogs written about paint dos and don’ts but it is especially true if you are trying to sell your home. Something as simple as the colours on your walls can attract or scare buyers away. The right paint can add dollars to your bottom line when selling also. Let’s take a look at some colour palettes that you should avoid first.

Pinks and Purples

Although you may get away with a “pink or purple” room that is your child’s room, painting these colours throughout your home can certainly give off the wrong vibes. Pinks and purples are often associated with a more feminine paint selection, this may turn away many buyers. Try to keep your home gender neutral.

Reds

Although red certainly does make a statement it is best to leave it off your walls. Having one room painted red can turn buyers away looking at your home online before they have even ventured near. For example, if you do have a red kitchen and can’t remove the colours then try to downplay with neutral accents of white or gray.

Neon Shades

While these shades do give an extreme pop of colour, buyers may find the colour too busy and just move on.

Now that we have given you some ideas on what colours to stay away from, let’s look at how you can have colour in your home that is tasteful and still not too bland.

What Colours Have Been Found To Sell

What colours you paint on your walls in the interior can make a cash difference when you sell. Earth tones of browns and tans can complement living or dining rooms that have accents of wood, stone, metal or glass. Include a feature wall of coffee tones to highlight one of these rooms.

Neutrals are also the best colours displayed in photographs and look the most tasteful when it comes to staging your home. However, you can add more colour to bedrooms or bathrooms. Don’t paint your entire house white. You want to sell your home not make it look too stark.

Greys and greiges (gray and beige) colours are the new neutrals and can be mixed from light to dark depending on your décor or style of home.

Buttery yellows in the right shade can give your kitchen a bright and sunny look. Be careful not to go to bold. Paired with some greenery this can make your kitchen look inviting and summery.

Last but not least no matter which colour you decide to pick make sure that you have a cohesive flow of colour throughout your home. If you have an open concept home you want to pick one main colour to flow through and be your dominant colour. Also, if you have a view of your kitchen, dining room and foyer make sure your colours work well together. If you put different colours in these visible rooms it can appear to have a choppy effect and make your home appear smaller.
